ICEBERG

Created by rhodie Feb 2009

Credit and thanks to the creators of Carrara Studio 2.0 3D modelling, Corel Photo-Paint 10 and GIF Movie Gear 2.6 (used for the animated unit sample).

Very special thanks to the CivFanatic's whose two little programmes were indispensable in the animation process -
Story Board Builder (created by Stephane David)
and PEdit V0.9.1 (created by Bertram Simon).

HOW TO ADD THIS NEW UNIT
to a scenario of Civ III, Civ III PTW or Civ III Conquests

A/ Check the contents of the downloaded unit rar.
There should be:
Iceberg.ini file
two Iceberg flc files
two sound files.
Civilopedia.txt file
PediaIcons.txt file
Iceberg_Large.pcx
Iceberg_Small.pcx
Iceberg_32_icon.pcx
ReadMe.txt

B/ ADD THE UNIT TO YOUR SCENARIO FOLDER
Move the entire Iceberg folder to the Units folder in Art of whichever Civ programme you have:
programs files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\Units
Or CIV3PTW\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\units
Or Conquests\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\Units

C/ ADD THE Iceberg_icon_32 pcx
Start your image editor (PhotoShop, etc) and open the units_32.pcx file found in:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\Units
Or CIV3PTW\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\units
Or Conquests\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\Units

Copy and paste the Iceberg_icon_32.pcx image onto an open square in the open scenario\Art\ units_32.pcx. Combine and make a note of which other units were next to it. This makes it easier to find the number later in the Civ editor.
Save the modified units_32.pcx file back to your scenario. Close units_32.pcx.

Close the image editor.

D/ ADD THE NEW PEDIA ICON IMAGES
Open the pediaicon Units folder found in:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios\
Your scenario\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Units
Or
CIV3PTW\Scenarios\Your scenario\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Units
Or
Conquests\Scenarios\
Your scenario\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Units
Move the two new unit pediaIcons images.
Iceberg_Large.pcx
and Iceberg_Small.pcx
into that folder.
Close the Units folder.

E/ ADD THE Iceberg CIVILOPEDIA ENTRIES
Open the Civilopedia folder in the Text folder of the same programme:
programs files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\Civilopedia
Or
CIV3PTW\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\Civilopedia
Or Conquests\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\Civilopedia

Now open the Civilopedia.txt file included in the downloaded zip.
Follow the instructions in the txt and add the required information to your scenario Civilopedia.txt.

Save and close your Civilopedia.txt

F/ ADD THE NEW UNIT PEDIA ICON TEXT ENTRIES
Open the PediaIcons folder in the Text folder of the same programme:
programs files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\PediaIcons
Or
CIV3PTW\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\PediaIcons
Or
Conquests\Scenarios\Your scenario\Text\PediaIcons

Now open the Pediaicons.txt file included in the downloaded zip.
Follow the instructions in the txt and add the required information to your scenario Pediaicons.txt.

Save and close the files.

G/ ADD THE Iceberg TO YOUR SCENARIO

The suggested values mentioned below are suggestions, compared to the values given in Civ III to normal infantry.

a/ Using the Civ III Editor open your scenario.
From the tool bar, select 'Edit' then 'Units'.
1/ 'Add' the name of your unit exactly as in the animation folder - Iceberg
2/ Select the Icon from position where you placed it in the 'units_32.pcx' file.
3/ Enter the 'Prerequisite' - None.
4/ Enter the 'Civilopedia Entry' -
 PRTO_Iceberg
exactly as above. If this section is missed or incorrect, the game will not load.
5/ Select 'Class' - Sea, 'Standard Orders' - tick all.
6/ Enter 'Unit Statistics' segments - Shield cost 5, Moves 1 (icebergs travel 17 miles a day and a Civ square is about 25 miles), Attack Str 1 (the AI won't move it otherwise), Defence Str 6, Req. Support - Remove tick.
7/ Enter any 'Required Resources' - none.
8/ Select 'Unit Abilities' - Invisible (Optional but that way it will be a surprise like the iceberg that sank the Titanic)
9/ Select which Civilization/s the new unit would be 'Available to' - Nature.
Close 'Edit'. Everything is automatically saved.

b/ With your scenario still open in the Civ III Editor, select 'Map/Select Active Player/then the Civilization/s that can use your new unit.
From the Tool Bar, 'Select Unit', scroll down to the name of your new unit and select OK. Add one unit to the scenario. Save.
Without closing the Editor, start the game, choose that Civilization and see if the unit and all the 'files' are working correctly.
With the game open, check that the large and small unit image and details are correctly shown in the 'Civilopedia'.

If the unit works well in the scenario, close the game, add additional new units to the scenario map and save the scenario.

I hope that you enjoy using this new nature unit in your games.
